Today’s Technology Brings Bad Theology

Birken-im-Herbst-find-the-fly-mushroom“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let that person be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let that person be under God’s curse!” –Galatians 1:6-9

There had been a lot of work done. Paul gave up the best years his life in order to spread the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus spent three years spreading the kingdom of God, mentoring disciples, and then He died on the cross so that we could have a chance to be saved by His grace through our faith. But now somebody had come into a community of believers and spread vicious propaganda about how Jesus wasn’t good enough. Jesus was no longer the way to be saved. Does this sound familiar?

With today’s technology we gain bad theology. Each day we are hit with false gospels. We view this on television and internet or we hear it on the radio. It seems so subtle that we may not even notice we are being taught ideas contrary to Christ teachings. Take commercials for instance. They teach us to want what we do not have. As a Christian we are to strive at being content with what we have. Is it okay to own nice materialistic objects? Sure, but they shouldn’t be our main focus in life. Our focus should be the same as Jesus’: Spreading His kingdom here on earth through loving kindness, while teaching others to do the same.

Following false gospels will have dire consequences! Those who preach a false gospel will be under God’s curse. Doesn’t sound fun, right? But you know what? God doesn’t want to put anybody under His curse; that is evident with the sending of His Son. In fact He leaves the option up to people of whether or not they will receive grace or receive a curse. If one preaches a false gospel or if they follow a false gospel they will ultimately be under God’s curse.

Good advise: If you hear some body say, “Jesus was a good man but…” there are a few things you could do. If you are watching television just hit the power button. If you are being spoken to by an individual ask them why they believe what they believe and be ready to explain why you believe what you believe. If you can, try and help the misguided teacher avoid God’s curse. If they will not listen, offer up a silent prayer to God that He would soften this person’s heart and then just walk away.

Remember what Jesus did for all of humanity on the cross. He came to set us free from the curse. We avoid the curse by choosing to accept God’s grace through our faith. Keep on in the faith of the true gospel of Jesus Christ.
