Sons Of Scotland

nach-Hause - winter-fog

“I am William Wallace. And I see a whole army of my countrymen,
here in defiance of tyranny! You have come to fight as free men. And
free man you are! What will you do without freedom? Will you fight?”
“Two thousand against ten?” – the veteran shouted. “No! We will
run – and live!”
“Yes!” Wallace shouted back. “Fight and you may die. Run and you
will live at least awhile. And dying in your bed many years from now,
would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for
one chance, just one chance, to come back here as young men and tell
our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take
our freedom!”

That is my most favorite speech ever!  After hearing it I feel like picking up my sword and fighting off the English… sorry England.  Most men today do not have a chance to fight off oppression.  If you live in America then more than likely you have never been oppressed.  We are more like the church in Laodicea in that we are well-to-do.  Even if you are living in poverty in America you are rich in comparison to the rest of the world.  We live better than most kings throughout history.  And most of us feel like all the battles have been fought.  Guess what.  All the battles haven’t been fought.  1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”  As Christians this is our main battle.  Satan and his angels attack us everyday.  So be on your guard and ready to fight.  How do we fight?  Through prayer and with God’s word.  Get His word in your heart.

One last thing.  Wouldn’t it be nice if scripture had its own William Wallace?  It has so much more!  I recommend reading through Nehemiah each day this week.  Pay close attention to his integrity.  He was a man who stayed close to God, and God’s people.  He also gave some speeches that would even make the heads in Hollywood turn and take notice:

“And all this time our enemies were saying, ‘They won’t know what hit them. Before they know it we’ll be at their throats, killing them right and left. That will put a stop to the work!’ The Jews who were their neighbors kept reporting, ‘They have us surrounded; they’re going to attack!’ If we heard it once, we heard it ten times.

So I stationed armed guards at the most vulnerable places of the wall and assigned people by families with their swords, lances, and bows. After looking things over I stood up and spoke to the nobles, officials, and everyone else: ‘Don’t be afraid of them. Put your minds on the Master, great and awesome, and then fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.'” –Nehemiah 4:12-14
